Commonly Asked Questions About
Liquid Ready Mixed Flowable Fill

Q. What is Liquid Ready Mixed Flowable Fill ?

A. It is a flowable mixture which contains cement, sand, flyash, water, and/or air and/or foam admixtures. Not all these item will be in every mix. Each mix is designed, batched, and its flowability adjusted by the Ready Mix Supplier for the needs of the specific use.

Q. How is Liquid Ready Mixed Flowable Fill delivered ?

A. It is mixed and delivered to the job site in ready mix trucks, precisely batched from a Ready Mix plant.

Q. Can Liquid Ready Mixed Flowable Fill be pumped ?

A. Yes, it can be designed to pump through a regular concrete pump, a mud jack pump, or grout pump by the proper use of air, water, and/or flyash.

Q. How much flexibility in ultimate strength does Liquid Ready Mixed Flowable Fill provide ?

A. The mixes can be designed for strengths from excavatable 50 psi - 150 psi in one year up to 1500 psi in 28 days.

Q. Should Liquid Ready Mixed Flowable Fill be used in place of concrete ?

A. The general answer is NO. However, there are some present uses of materials which currently call for low strength concrete in which it could be used.

Q. How does Liquid Ready Mixed Flowable Fill compare to compacted gravel ?

A. It is a substitute for compacted gravel. It has many qualities superior to compacted gravel such as: no testing, uniformity, known strength in place, higher bearing capacities, less permeable, more stable, sets under water, no equipment or labor.

Q. For what can re-excavated Liquid Ready Mixed Flowable Fill be used ?

A. It is an environmentally safe material that can be disposed of as regular construction material. After it has been excavated it loses its flowability and does not act as a compacted material.

Q. Can Liquid Ready Mixed Flowable Fill be used in wet weather ?

A. Yes, it can even be placed into a hole full of water and it will set up properly with the desired compaction.

Q. Can Liquid Ready Mixed Flowable Fill be used in cold weather ?

A. Yes, in winter it may be heated, and thus be lump free; this is instead of regular gravel materials which usually are full of frost and lumps in winter. Afterpouring, it is best to protect the Flowable Fill with hay or blankets in cold weather.

Q. How much does Liquid Ready Mixed Flowable Fill settle ?

A. Since mixes contain a lot of water which must be pushed out by the settling of heavier materials, no air fly ash mixes take 90+% of their settlement in the first 1.5 to 2 hours, with minimal settlement thereafter. The high air (25 - 30%) mixeshave minimal settlement.
